Clothes Dryers
Automatic Clothes Dryers do not qualify for Energy Star status. The reason: they are energy hogs. While some models do come with low heat, tumble-only options and moisture sensors that automatically shut down the machine as soon as clothes are dry, your best bet is to avoid use of a dryer as much as possible.
Growing up we only used our dryer in the winter when someone's snowsuit was impossibly wet and we really had to go out again right away. Hanging clothes up inside was preferable, as it added much-needed humidity, but even if your house is already humid, using a dehumidifier is more energy efficient than a clothes dryer.
This is why we have listed your local hardware store in the Where to Buy section. They have a wide selection of drying lines and racks for use in many different indoor and outdoor situations. Remember your Green Shopping Principles and enjoy the fresh scent of line-dried clothes!
