 Office Equipment is something that the government uses a lot, so quite a bit of research has gone into the environmental impact of the various technologies used. You can take advantage of this research in equipping your office. Remember, that good quality equipment will cost you more to begin with, but it should come with excellent warranty coverage and long-term energy savings. After decades of ballooning energy consumption, we are now being asked to scale back, and so buying the most energy efficient machines will definitely pay off sooner rather than later.
This is one case where newer technology tends to be better, both in terms of energy use and in terms of upgradability and recyclability. None of this equipment is made in Peterborough and the Kawarthas, but all of it is available here. Given that fact, we will not reinvent the wheel, but will refer you to the Environmental Choice web site, which is the independent body that certifies nominated products according to their environmental performance and responsibility. A warning: don't just look at the name of the corporation and buy anything made by them. Specicfic product numbers are listed for the items they make that are EcoLogo certified, and other environmental benefits may be listed as well. You may have to write down the product number of the environmentally preferable product and have an office supply house order it in for you. Most will happily do this. Emphasize to supplier and manufacturer that you prioritize environmental practices. They are listening!
