Some active wear is available that is made from hemp and organic cotton. These fabrics are environmentally preferable, since they do not require the large amounts of chemical fertilizers and pesticides used in regular cotton production. Hemp can also be grown in our area, unlike cotton, which needs a much longer growing season than we have here.
At this time, we could not find locally produced hemp active wear. However, Wild Rock Outfitters does have a selection, including the Patagonia line of activewear that claims to be made in an environmentally friendly way. Wild Rock is listed in the Where to Buy section, and the patagonia web site is listed in the Links section, along with Mountain Equipment Co-op, a Canadian cooperative which tries to source ecological active wear and outdoor gear, and sells their products online.
