The Green Shopping Guide organizes products and services into categories, describing the key criteria to look for, listing local places to buy green products and providing links to more in-depth resources.

General principles of green shopping are:

• buy durable, used goods unless new technology is better e.g. reduced energy use

• buy goods produced as close to the Peterborough area as possible (shipping of goods produces emissions and uses significant amounts of fuel)

• buy goods that use the least resources to manufacture/produce and operate

• buy goods that use and produce materials that are non-hazardous
