In the Peterborough area, many people are trying to live in harmony with our environment. Buying products and services that are more environmentally friendly is one way to do this.
The Green Shopping Guide organizes products and services into categories, describing the key criteria to look for, listing local places to buy green products and providing links to more in-depth resources.
General principles of green shopping are:
buy durable, used goods unless new technology is better e.g. reduced energy use
buy goods produced as close to the Peterborough area as possible (shipping of goods produces emissions and uses significant amounts of fuel)
buy goods that use the least resources to manufacture/produce and operate
buy goods that use and produce materials that are non-hazardous
This guide is new and will improve and evolve over time. We understand that the information we have found so far is only the tip of the Peterborough and the Kawarthas iceberg.
